Seventh Day
Today, we added another coat of spray paint since the other one had began to chip off. After that we were ready to begin testing. We put the prototype out in front of the engineering classroom and invited other people to use it. Mainly our classmates were the ones to play it, and they provided insightful feedback and this allowed us to further improve the prototype. Over the weekend we will be testing this in Keiser park with the general public being able to use it for the first time. This means that we will have true feedback to incorporate into our design and to make modifications to the final design plan that we have for the project. We will be sending team members to monitor the prototype over the weekend and collect data on the people that use it.
Sixth Day
We were able to finish the prototype and began to play test and sort out bugs today. To do that, we fixed the concrete in one bucket that had not set right and then painted the entire prototype to make it look nicer and be more inviting to other people. From there we were able to print the rules and construct the sign. We were able to test the game with our group members and receive feedback from other people in the core. We decided to add lubricant to the crossbar so that the ring would move much more easily across the bar and there would be no snags. Then we put a nut on each bolt to raise it up a little bit so that the ring could not go over the end and out of play.
Fifth Day
We were able to build most of our prototype today and overall it is looking very nice. In the morning Jason and I went and bent the crossbar into the correct shape and then brought it back for painting. While I was gone the other group members worked on preparing the poles for painting and then began to pour the concrete. By the end of first block we had one bucket of concrete done and after break we were able to pour the second bucket of concrete. At this point we had done the most important parts of construction and moved onto the ball. Once that was done the concrete was set enough to test it and see if it would actually work. We then screwed the bolt in and did a quick test and we had great results. Then we disassembled the prototype and let the concrete set. We made up the rules to the game and next class we can build the sign and begin to paint the prototype.
Fourth Day
Today, we sent three team members to acquire the materials that we would need to complete the project. The majority of the materials were purchased from Home Depot with a few other items from other places. While those members were doing that, Chris, Sara, and myself went to a meeting with members from Keysight to talk about the design process and being a team leader. We were able to ask them questions about their experiences and what helps to make a project better and how to get the most out of each member in the team. After our team members returned from Home Depot we were able to review our plans with our engineering teacher and then move onto the building stage of the project. Jason and Kyle went and began the wielding process on the two poles. From there we were ready to begin the majority of the work next class.
Third Day
For the third day in the project we began the planning stage. This featured a gnatt chart of student responsibilities such as engineer, media marketing, and team leader. I was selected to the role of team leader and my responsibilities include setting up the schedule for the day of what needs to be accomplished, and the majority of the documentation of who is doing what for that day. We then went over the design of the prototype and the core teachers talked about refining our ideas to include different aspects of design. Two team members also went and found a suitable spot for the prototype to go in Keiser park. The prototype will go next to the preexisting play structure in the grassy area. The final goal of the project is to be able to present the idea to board members at Parks and Rec and see what they think of the idea.
